A process is disclosed for preparing aliphatic .alpha.,.omega.-aminonitriles by partially hydrogenating aliphatic .alpha.,.omega.-dinitriles at an increased temperature and pressure in the presence of a solvent and a catalyst. The process is characterised in that the catalyst is obtained by thermally decomposing a metal compound selected in the group made up of metal carbonyl compounds, metal salts of C1-C6-carboxylic acids and C2-C6- dicarboxylic acids and metal complexes with diketones until the corresponding metal and/or a metal oxide thereof is obtained, provided that the metal used be nickel or cobalt.

Selon un procédé de préparation d'aminonitriles-.alpha.,.omega. aliphatiques, on hydrogène partiellement des dinitriles-.alpha.,.omega. aliphatiques à une température et une pression accrues en présence d'un solvant et d'un catalyseur. Le procédé se caractérise en ce que l'on utilise un catalyseur produit par décomposition thermique d'un composé métallique sélectionné dans le groupe constitué des composés carbonyle métalliques, des sels métalliques d'acides carboxyliques C¿1?-C¿6? et dicarboxyliques C¿2?-C¿6? et des complexes métalliques avec des dicétones jusqu'à obtenir le métal correspondant et/ou un oxyde métallique dudit métal, à condition que l'on utilise du nickel ou du cobalt comme métal.
