A mail inserting system is disclosed of the type having a conveyor with a first end, a second end and a motor for incrementally driving the conveyor from its first and toward its second end. A plurality of mail loading stations are provided at predetermined positions along the conveyor and each mail loading station includes a loader for loading a predetermined mail item onto the conveyor. At the second end of the conveyor, a stuffer assembly engages the stacked mail items on the conveyor and moves the stacked mail items into an open envelope which is then sealed and either stacked, delivered to a postage meter and/or a delivery module. A processing unit is electronically connected to control the motor and all electro-mechanical devices. A processing unit is electrically connected to the motor, the mail loading stations and the pusher assembly. This processing unit generates output signals for selectively controlling the actuation of the motor and all electro-mechanical devices. Additionally, the processing unit provides electrical output signals to a central station so that the status of multiple mail inserting systems can be monitored at the central station.
