The invention relates to a textile surface for thermal insulation, which is intended, for example, for the production of protective clothing and, in particular, for clothing worn by fire fighters, said thermal surface performing a thermal barrier function. The invention comprises type A heat-stable yarns which display little or no shrinkage under the effect of heat and type B yarns which display shrinkage under the effect of heat. The latter yarns can be used to produce a controlled relief, thereby increasing the insulating power of the textile complexes used for thermal protection. The invention also relates to multilayer complexes comprising said surface.
