Disclosed is a novel dimethylpropanediol compound of the formula: (see fig.I) wherein R1 and R2 are each independently a C1-30 hydrocarbon group which may be substituted, or a five- or six-membered heterocyclic group which contains 1 to 4 heteroatoms selected from oxygen, sulfur and nitrogen atoms and which may be substituted, R3 is hydrogen atom, an alkyl group which may be substituted, an acyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, a phenoxycarbonyl group, or a carbamoyl group which may be substituted, and a and b are each independently 0 or 1 or a salt thereof, which has a hair revitalizing action and is useful for hair growth promotion, hair growth stimulation, or hair loss prevention in mammals.

On divulgue un nouveau composé du diméthylpropanediol de formule : (voir fig. I) où R1 et R2 sont, indépendamment l'un de l'autre, un groupe hydrocarboné en C1-C30 qui peut être substitué ou un groupe hétérocyclique à cinq ou six atomes contenant 1 à 4 hétéroatomes choisis parmi les atomes d'oxygène, de soufre et d'azote et qui peut être substitué, R3 est un atome d'hydrogène, un groupe alkyle qui peut être substitué, un groupe acyle, un groupe alcoxycarbonyle, un groupe phénoxycarbonyle ou un groupe carbamoyle qui peut être substitué, et a et b correspondent, indépendamment l'un de l'autre, à 0 ou 1, ou un sel de ce dernier, qui agit comme revitalisant des cheveux et qui est utile pour promouvoir la croissance des cheveux, stimuler la croissance des cheveux ou prévenir la perte des cheveux chez les mammifères
