A computerized telephony bridge unit (87) has a Data Network Telephony (DNT) port (25) and a Connection Oriented/Switched Telephony (COST) trunk port (23), each associated with circuitry for receiving a placing calls in the data format required by connected networks. The bridge unit (87) further includes conversion circuitry for converting data dynamically between network protocols compatible with each connected network. Control routines executable on the computerized bridge unit are adapted to receive a first call from one of the COST and DNT networks, to place a call associated with the received call on the network other than the network on which the call is received, and to dynamically convert data between a call connected at one port and a call connected at the other port. The data network can be the Internet (15), and the COST network can be any publicly or privately switched dedicated- connection-oriented telephone network (13). Association between calls between two otherwise incompatible networks can be by a locally-stored lookup table, by negotiation with a caller, or by retrieval of data from incoming calls.
L'invention concerne une unité passerelle téléphonique informatisée, comprenant un port de téléphonie par réseau informatique, ou port DNT (data network telephony) et un port de liaison d'orientation connexion ou de téléphonie commutée, ou port COST (connexion oriented/switched telephony), chacun de ces ports étant associé à des circuits de manière à recevoir des appels dans la structure de données exigée par les réseaux reliés. L'unité passerelle de cette invention comprend également des circuits de conversion permettant de convertir des données de manière dynamique, entre des protocoles de réseaux compatibles avec chacun desdits réseaux reliés. Les programmes de gestion pouvant être exécutés sur ladite unité passerelle informatisée sont en outre conçus pour recevoir un premier appel provenant du réseau COST ou du réseau DNT, pour faire un appel associé à l'appel reçu sur un réseau autre que le réseau ayant reçu ledit appel, et pour convertir de manière dynamique les données entre un appel relié à un port et un appel relié à l'autre port. Le réseau de transmission de données susmentionné peut être l'Internet, et le réseau COST peut être n'importe quel réseau téléphonique spécialisé public ou privé orienté connexion. L'association entre les appels échangés par des réseaux normalement incompatibles peut être réalisée grâce à une table locale de consultation, à une négociation avec un appelant, ou à des données extraites d'appels entrants.
