The present invention provides an electronic lottery played over the Internet any time of day or night, unlike a traditional 6/49 lotto which only plays at fixed intervals, such as bi-weekly. A single player has a chance to win the full jackpot every time they play. Users will never split the jackpot as there is essentially a full jackpot available for each time a user plays. The invention provides a method of conducting instantaneous on-line lotteries of the type wherein a first selection of x unique numerals is selected from a maximum set of y numerals from 1 to y, and a second selection of x unique numerals is randomly selected from a maximum set of y numerals from 1 to y and compared to the first selection, and prizes awarded based on the number of matching numerals, comprising: a) providing a web site accessible to users on the Internet via a plurality of client terminals and comprising a secure server, the secure server being adapted to i) randomly generate a selection of x unique numerals selected from a maximum set of y numerals from 1 to y; ii) compare the randomly generated selection to a plurality of user selections; iii) maintain a user account; and iv) conduct e-commerce transactions to obtain payments from said user; b) obtaining on-line payment of funds for crediting the account of a user; c) providing means for the user to select x numerals selected from a maximum set of y numerals from 1 to y and submit to the secure server one or more of such user selections of x numerals selected from a maximum set of y numerals from 1 to y; d) randomly generating on the secure server a second selection of x unique numerals selected from a maximum set of y numerals from 1 to y; e) comparing the user selections to the random selection of x numerals; f) determining the prizes awarded, if any, based on the number of matching numerals; g) debiting the user's account according to the number of user selections submitted; h) crediting the user's account according to the amount of prizes won; i) storing the data generated in steps c) through h); and j) communicating the randomly generated selection of numerals to the user.
