Heat-expandable molded synthetic resin seal and baffle components adapted for use in automobile body cavities or the like are provided which are designed to preferentially expand upon heating in desired directions and to a desired degree, in order to properly seal irregular or special cavity shapes. The molded components of the invention have selected body surface portions thereof UV crosslinked to a depth of up to about 0.5 mm, while other portions of the molded body are not crosslinked; upon heating, the crosslinked portions expand at a slower rate and to a lesser extent than non-crosslinked body portions. The preferred synthetic resin includes a grafted anhydride polymer, a terminal epoxide polymer additive, a blowing agent, a UV photoinitiator and a UV crosslinkable resin system.
L'invention concerne des composants d'écran acoustique et de joint en résine synthétique moulée thermoexpansible s'utilisant dans des cavités de carrosserie d'automobile ou analogue. Ces composants sont conçus de manière à opérer une expansion, lors du chauffage, dans des directions désirées et d'un degré désiré, de sorte à obturer de façon appropriée les formes spéciales ou irrégulières des cavités. Les composants moulés de l'invention possèdent des parties de surface de carrosserie sélectionnées à rayons UV réticulés à une profondeur d'environ 0,5 mm, alors que d'autres parties de la carrosserie moulée ne sont pas réticulées. Lors du chauffage, les parties réticulées opèrent une expansion à une vitesse inférieure et à de façon moins importante que les parties non réticulées de la carrosserie. La résine synthétique préférée comprend un polymère anhydre greffé, un additif polymère époxyde terminal, un agent d'expansion, un photo-initiateur à rayons UV et un système de résine réticulable à rayons UV.
