An apparatus for separating sulphur and soil consisting of a liquid sulphur bath container having an upper compartment, and a lower compartment. The upper compartment has a bottom sloping downwardly from a peripheral top edge toward the lower compartment. The upper compartment has a lower sidewall adjacent the lower compartment with a liquid aperture whereby liquids communicate between the upper compartment and the lower compartment. A heating element is disposed in the upper compartment to maintain the temperature of a liquid sulphur bath. Solid phase sulphur contaminants in soil are heated to liquid phase by the liquid sulphur bath. As sulphur contaminated soil is placed into the liquid sulphur bath, a displacement of liquid sulphur occurs which results in a migration of liquid sulphur through the liquid aperture in the lower sidewall into the lower compartment and ultimately through the outlet. A belt conveyor extends parallel to the bottom of the upper compartment and through a slotted opening in the lower sidewall of the upper compartment below the liquid aperture into the lower compartment. A layer of soil is carried by the belt conveyor to a spillway positioned adjacent the top peripheral edge of the container. The belt conveyor is of a filter material such that liquid sulphur passing through the liquid aperture into the lower compartment passes through the filter material of the belt conveyor thereby removing sediment from the liquid sulphur.
Appareil de séparation du soufre du sol. L'appareil est constitué d'un récipient contenant un bain de soufre liquide et un compartiment supérieur et un compartiment inférieur. La partie inférieure du compartiment supérieur est déclinée vers le compartiment inférieur à partir du rebord supérieur périphérique. Le compartiment supérieur est doté d'une paroi latérale inférieure adjacente au compartiment inférieur et d'une ouverture par laquelle les liquides peuvent passer pour être en communication avec les compartiments supérieur et inférieur. Lorsque du sol contaminé au soufre est introduit dans le bain liquide, il se produit un déplacement du soufre liquide qui s'achemine à travers l'orifice pratiqué dans la paroi latérale pour permettre au liquide de passer dans le compartiment inférieur puis d'être évacué par l'orifice de sortie. Un transporteur à courroie s'avance en parallèle à la partie inférieure du compartiment supérieur et passe dans une ouverture en forme de fente aménagée dans la paroi latérale inférieure du compartiment supérieur sous l'ouverture permettant le passage du liquide dans le compartiment inférieur. Une couche de terre est transportée par le transporteur jusqu'au déversoir placé prés du bord périphérique supérieur du récipient. La bande du transporteur est constituée d'un matériau filtrant de sorte que le soufre liquide qui passe par l'ouverture pour atteindre le compartiment inférieur est filtré par la bande du transporteur afin de séparer les sédiments du soufre liquide.
