An imaging system (6) and method for alleviating perceptional problems of a viewer during the transmission and display of high resolution still images on a video system is disclosed. Through modifications to an encoder (16) and decoder (24) within the imaging system, the viewer may select a still image or portion thereof from a video image sequence for viewing. The imaging system and method ameliorate perceptional delays in displaying the lengthy high resolution still image by immediately displaying a lower-resolution, shorter-length video image frame corresponding to the still image. The lower resolution video image being displayed is then updated and refined with the image data from the high resolution still image as it is received.
On décrit un système (6) et un procédé d'imagerie qui permettent d'atténuer les problèmes de perception d'un téléspectateur pendant la transmission et l'affichage d'images fixes haute résolution sur un système vidéo. En modifiant un codeur (16) et un décodeur (24) à l'intérieur du système d'imagerie, le téléspectateur peut sélectionner et visionner tout ou partie d'une image fixe tirée d'une séquence d'images vidéo. Grâce auxdits système et procédé d'imagerie, on peut améliorer les retards de perception liés à l'affichage d'une image fixe haute résolution de longue durée en affichant immédiatement une trame d'image vidéo plus courte et de résolution plus faible correspondant à ladite image fixe. L'image vidéo de résolution plus faible en cours d'affichage est ensuite mise à jour et affinée au moyen des données d'image provenant de l'image fixe haute résolution au fur et à mesure que celle-ci arrive.
