A capsule magazine unit that is releasably associable with a magazine receiving portion of a device for preparing a food or beverage, such as an espresso machine. Preferably, at least one capsule magazine is configured for receiving a plurality of capsules that contain a substance for preparing the food or beverage. The magazine has a removal opening configured and dimensioned for removal of the capsules from the magazine. A capsule retainer is associated with the magazine and movable with respect thereto between a retaining position and a releasing position. In the retaining position, the retaining member blocks the removal opening sufficiently to keep the capsules from falling through the retaining opening. In the releasing position, the retaining member allows the capsules to be removed from the magazine through the opening for the preparation of the food. Additionally, a retainer positioner is associated with the retainer and configured for moving the retainer between the retaining and the releasing position upon an association of the positioner with a first portion of the device.

Au moins un des magasins de capsules, de préférence est configuré de façon à recevoir une diversité de capsules contenant une substance entrant dans la préparation d'une boisson ou d'un aliment. Le magasin est doté d'une ouverture dont la taille permet aux capsules d'en être extraites. Le magasin comporte un dispositif de retenue de capsule qui peut passer de la position de retenue à la position permettant de relâcher une capsule. En position de retenue, le dispositif de retenue bloque suffisamment l'ouverture pour empêcher la capsule de sortir par cette ouverture. En position de libération de capsule, le dispositif de retenue dégage l'ouverture pour permettre à la capsule de sortir par l'ouverture aux fins de la préparation de l'aliment. De plus, un positionneur déterminant le mode de retenue ou le mode de libération est associé au dispositif de rétention; ce positionneur permet de faire passer le dispositif de retenue d'une position à l'autre, en fonction de la demande envoyée au positionneur par une première section du dispositif.
