A high horsepower, low voltage totally enclosed fan cooled AC induction motor includes two groups of stator windings having a different number of turns to produce fractional effective number of turns per stator slot to facilitate fine tuning of magnetic core flux levels. The windings are formed in multiple passes to simplify manufacturing operations and increase motor reliability. A stator core inner diameter to outer diameter ratio is selected to provide a lower winding temperature rise for a given physical motor size and horsepower output, and an air gap size between a stator core and a rotor core is optimized to reduce slot and winding harmonics.
