A coating apparatus and process for coating selected surface areas of extruded substrates with decorative or functional coatings by passing the extrud- ed substrates emerging from the extrusion die through a coating block. The coating block contains a coating cavity die conforming to the selected surfaces to be coated wherein liquid coating is supplied to the coating cavity die in a manner to selectively coat the selected surfaces on the extruded substrate.
