A unified architecture for a multipoint VC session and interactive broadcasting system is provided that includes a server, one or more video accessing points, reflectors and client machines. The server sets up the video communication sessions (VC sessions), each of which is hosted by one video accessing point. The server downloads the A/V client software to client machines. Reflectors direct audio/visual signals to client machines. The reflectors are coupled to the video accessing point and receive a control signal from the video accessing point in order to direct the A/V signals from the client machines participating in the VC session. The client machines process all of the A/V signals. This system for distributing the VC session tasks across these components reduces any bottleneck effect from using a single, central control point to direct the VC session and route the A/V signals. The server, also, serves as a ticket agent, and is configured to issue and redeem tickets for specific VC sessions and broadcasts through the use of a session booking module. Finally, the downloading process of the A/V client software prevents software incompatibility among participants and enables low storage devices such as handheld devices to participate.
L'invention concerne une architecture unifiée pour une session de vidéocommunication multipoint et un système de radiodiffusion interactif, comprenant un serveur, un ou plusieurs points d'accès vidéo, des réflecteurs et des machines clients. Le serveur établit des sessions de vidéocommunication (sessions VC), chacune d'elles étant hébergées par un point d'accès vidéo. Le serveur télécharge vers l'aval le logiciel client audio/vidéo (A/V) pour les machines clients. Les réflecteurs dirigent des signaux audio/vidéo aux machines clients. Les réflecteurs sont couplés au point d'accès vidéo et reçoivent un signal de commande du point d'accès vidéo afin de diriger les signaux A/V des machines clients participant à la session VC. Les machines clients traitent tous les signaux A/V. Ce système de distribution des tâches de la session VC aux composants réduit tout effet d'étranglement causé par l'utilisation d'un seul point de commande central pour diriger la session VC et acheminer les signaux A/V. Le serveur sert également d'agent de billets, et est configuré pour générer et échanger des billets pour des sessions VC et des diffusions spécifiques grâce à l'utilisation d'un module de réservation de session. Le processus de téléchargement du logiciel client A/V prévient enfin toute incompatibilité logicielle parmi les participants et permet à des dispositifs à faible stockage, par exemple, des dispositifs portables, de participer.
