A method of inducing blood vessel formation in an animal by administering to the animal a polynucleotide encoding a sphingosine kinase, or an analogue, fragment, or derivative thereof. The polynucleotide may be contained in an appropriate expression vector, such as a viral vector. The delivery of sphingosine kinase through administration of an expression vector which expresses sphingosine kinase provides for the formation of larger blood vessels containing a well defined structure that is supported by mural cells such as pericytes and smooth muscle cells.
La présente invention concerne un procédé permettant d'initier la formation de vaisseau sanguin chez un animal, par administration à l'animal d'un polynucléotide codant pour une sphingosine kinase, ou analogue, fragment, ou dérivé de celle-ci. Le polynucléotide peut faire partie d'un vecteur d'expression approprié tel qu'un vecteur viral. L'administration de sphingosine kinase par administration d'un vecteur d'expression qui exprime la sphingosine kinase permet la formation de vaisseaux sanguins de taille supérieure ayant une structure bien définie qui est supportée par des cellules murales telles que les péricytes et les cellules de muscles lisses.
