There are provided a character input device and its method. A character input device comprising: a base; an input unit positioned at the base to allow each of first direction input and second direction input to be independently performed, the first direction input being performed by moving the input unit from a reference position to any one of a plurality of first direction indication positions spaced and arranged radially from the reference position within a pre¬ determined input area and the second direction input being performed by selecting any one of a plurality of second direction indication positions spaced and arranged radially in the input unit itself; a first sensing unit for sensing the movement of the input unit; a second sensing unit for sensing the second direction input; and a control unit for extracting and running a first character or a second character from a memory unit, the first character being assigned to the first direction indication position in which the movement of the input unit is sensed, and the second character being assigned to the second direction indication position in which the second direction input is sensed, thereby making it possible to minimize a necessary space for inputting characters and accurately input each character according to a user's intention.
Cette invention concerne un dispositif et une méthode de saisie de caractères. Ledit dispositif comprend les éléments suivants: base; unité de saisie disposée sur la base permettant d'effectuer indépendamment l'une de l'autre une saisie dans une première direction et une saisie dans une seconde direction, la saisie dans la première direction se faisant en déplaçant l'unité de saisie depuis une position de référence vers une pluralité de positions d'indication de la première direction, espacées les unes des autres et disposées radialement à partie de la position de référence à l'intérieur d'une zone de saisie prédéterminée et la saisie dans la seconde direction se faisant en choisissant l'une quelconque d'une pluralité de secondes positions d'indication de la seconde direction, espacées les unes des autres et agencées radialement dans l'unité de saisie elle-même; première unité de détection détecte le mouvement de l'unité de saisie; seconde unité de détection détecte la saisie dans la seconde direction; et unité de commande assure l'extraction et la mise en oeuvre d'un premier ou d'un second caractères à partir d'une unité de mémoire, le premier caractère étant attribué à la position d'indication de la première direction dans laquelle est détecté le mouvement de l'unité de saisie, et le second caractère à la position d'indication de la seconde direction dans laquelle est détectée la saisie dans la seconde direction. Ce système permet de réduire au minimum l'espace requis pour la saisie de caractères et de saisir chaque caractère avec précision conformément à l'intention de l'utilisateur.
