A method of applying a sealing material onto a fuel cell-use separator, wherein a seal groove to which a sealing material is applied is provided in a separator, the width of the seal groove is so set as to be larger at a portion where a sealing material application starts and a portion where a sealing material application ends than at the other portions, and the application starting portion and the application ending portion are allowed to cross each other at portions where a seal groove width is larger, whereby enhancing adhesion between the application starting portion and the application ending portion, a degree of freedom of sealing material applying position, and the sealing performance of a fuel cell--use cell.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant d'appliquer une matière d'obturation sur un séparateur destiné à une pile à combustible. On appliquée une matière d'obturation (39) sur une gorge d'étanchéité (118) formée dans un séparateur (40). On détermine la largeur de la gorge d'étanchéité de façon qu'elle soit plus importante sur une partie (39a) où une application de matière d'obturation commence et sur une partie (39b) où une application de matière d'obturation finit que sur les autres parties. La partie de commencement de l'application et la partie de fin de l'application peuvent s'entrecroiser sur des parties où la largeur de la gorge d'étanchéité est plus importante. On améliore ainsi l'adhérence entre la partie de commencement de l'application et la partie de fin de l'application, le degré de liberté de la position d'application de la matière d'obturation et l'efficacité de l'étanchéité d'une cellule de pile à combustible.
