A wireless communication system including a mesh network having a plurality of mesh points (MPs), a plurality of wireless transmit/receive units 106s (WTRUs), extra-mesh local area network (LAN) resources, and an external network is disclosed. When one of the MPs receives a packet, a determination is made as to whether the received packet is destined to another MP belongings to the same mesh network, (or to a WTRU served by another MP), and. if so, a determinatin is made as to whether there are at least two mesh portals (104a, 104c) in the mesh network that provide access to the external network via the extra-mesh LAN resources. The packet is routed according to an intra-mesh routing algorithm if there are less than two mesh portals hi the mesh network. Otherwise, a determination is made as to whether an extra-mesh routing algorithm or an intra-mesh routing algorithm should be used.
L'invention porte sur un système de communication sans fil comprenant un réseau maillé équipé d'une pluralité de points de maillage (MP), une pluralité d'unités de transmission/réception sans fil (WTRU), des ressources de réseau local (LAN) hors maillage, et un réseau externe. Lorsqu'un des points de maillage reçoit un paquet, on détermine si le paquet reçu est destiné à un autre point de maillage appartenant au même réseau maillé, (ou à une WTRU servie par un autre MP), et si tel est le cas, on détermine si il y a au moins deux portails de maillage dans le réseau de maillage qui donnent accès au réseau externe au moyen des ressources LAN hors maillage. Le paquet est acheminé en fonction d'un algorithme d'acheminement dans le maillage s'il y a moins de deux portails de maillage dans le réseau maillé. Sinon, on détermine si un algorithme d'acheminement hors maillage ou un algorithme d'acheminement dans le maillage doit être utilisé.
