An implanted system for the defibrillation of the atria of a patient's heart includes a pair of atrial defibrillation electrodes (60, 65), and a pulse generator (13) operatively associated with the first pair of atrial defibrillation elec-trodes for delivering the first atrial defibrillation pulse. The pulse generator delivers a second atrial defibrillation pulse after the first defibrillation pulse without intervening moni-toring thereof to reduce the voltage necessary for the chock, and the pain associated therewith.

Ce système implanté de défibrillation des oreillettes du coeur d'un patient comprend une paire d'électrodes de défibrillation auriculaire (60, 65), ainsi qu'un générateur d'impulsions (13) associé de manière fonctionnelle à une première paire d'électrodes de défibrillation auriculaire, destinées à fournir la première impulsion de défibrillation auriculaire. Le générateur d'impulsions fournit une seconde impulsion de défibrillation auriculaire, après la première et sans qu'intervienne un contrôle de l'efficacité de cette première impulsion, afin de diminuer la tension nécessaire au choc et par conséquent la douleur associée à celui-ci.
