A hydrotreating catalyst for heavy oil, comprising an alumina carrier and both a Group 6 metal component and a Group 9 or 10 metal component supported on the carrier. The alumina carrier contains 0.5 to 20 wt.% (based on the catalyst) of silica, which is dispersed therein in the form of silica particles having a mean particle diameter of 0.05 to 1 µm. The catalyst has a pore diameter distribution of pore diameters of 600 .ANG. or below and a median pore diameter of 70 .ANG. to less than 150 .ANG.. The catalyst exerts excellent desulfurization and denitrification characteristics for a long period when used in hydrotreating hydrometallized heavy oil.
La présente invention concerne un catalyseur d'hydrotraitement pour une huile lourde comprenant un support en alumine, un composant d'un métal du groupe 6 et un composant de métal du groupe 9 ou 10 porté par ledit support. Le support d'alumine contient 0,5 % à 20 % en poids (sur la base du catalyseur) de silice dispersée dans le support sous forme de particules de silice présentant un diamètre de particule moyen de 0,05 à 1 µm. Le catalyseur présente une distribution de diamètre de pore égal ou inférieur à 600 .ANG. et un diamètre de pore médian égal à 70 .ANG. ou inférieur à 150 .ANG.. Le catalyseur possède d'excellentes caractéristiques de désulfurisation et de dénitratation sur une longue durée lorsque celui-ci est utilisé pour hydrotraiter une huile lourde.
