An end seal assembly is adapted to seal the space between at least one cable and a closure to restrict fluid transfer through the seal. The end seal assembly includes an end seal having a body formed from an elastic, flexible material. The body includes a core portion (20) and an extended tail portion (22). The core portion has an outer peripheral surface, spaced ends, and a wall forming at least one cylindrical opening (24) through the core portion. The cylindrical opening extends between the spaced ends. The wall has two edges communicating with the outer peripheral surface of the core portion to define between the two edges an entrance slot (21) to the at least one of the cylindrical openings (24). The extended tail portion is integral with and extends from the outer peripheral surface of the core portion (20). Moreover, the tail portion (22) has a surface tangential to the wall forming the at least one opening. In addition, the tail portion has sufficient length to wrap about the outer peripheral surface of the core portion to form a wrapped end seal such that the tail portion covers the entrance slot (21) of the at least one opening and a cable to be placed therein. The assembly further includes a rigid collar having first and second collar portions (90, 91) that are pivotably interconnected. The first and second portions have inner surfaces that conform to and enclose the wrapped end seal to form an inner cavity between the wrapped end seal and the first and second portions of the collar. The collar also has an outer surface adapted to sealingly abut an end of the closure. Furthermore, the assembly provides for injection of a sealant composition to fill the inner cavity and to bond together the wrapped end seal, the cable (which is placed in the opening), and the rigid collar.
L'invention concerne un ensemble joint d'extrémité conçu pour rendre étanche l'espace situé entre au moins un câble et une fermeture, de manière à limiter un transfert de fluide à travers le joint. L'ensemble joint d'extrémité comporte un joint d'extrémité présentant un corps constitué d'une matière souple élastique. Le corps comporte une partie centrale (20) et une partie de queue allongée (22). La partie centrale présente une surface périphérique extérieure, des extrémités espacées, et une paroi formant au moins une ouverture (24) cylindrique à travers la partie de corps. L'ouverture cylindrique s'étend entre les extrémités espacées. La paroi présente deux bords communiquant avec la surface périphérique extérieure de la partie de corps de façon à définir entre les deux bords une fente d'entrée (21) vers la/les ouverture(s) cylindrique(s) (24). La partie de queue allongée forme une seule pièce avec la surface périphérique extérieure de la partie centrale (20) et s'étend à partir de cette surface. De plus, la partie de queue (22) possède une surface tangente à la paroi formant la/les ouverture(s). La partie de queue présente en outre une longueur suffisante pour envelopper la surface périphérique extérieure de la partie centrale, de façon à former un joint d'extrémité enveloppé tel que la partie de queue couvre la fente d'entrée (21) de la/les ouverture(s) et un câble se plaçant dans celle-ci. L'ensemble comporte de plus une bague rigide présentant une première et une deuxième parties de bague (90, 91) interconnectées pivotantes. Les première et deuxième parties de bague comportent des surfaces intérieures qui épousent et contiennent le joint d'extrémité enveloppé, de façon à former une cavité interne entre le joint d'extrémité enveloppé et les première et deuxième parties de bague. La bague présente également une surface extérieure conçue pour abouter de façon étanche une extrémité de la fermeture. L'ensemble est en outre conçu pour recevoir une composition d'étanchéité injectée qui remplit la cavité interne et assure une liaison entre le joint d'extrémité enveloppé, le câble (placé dans l'ouverture) et la bague rigide.
