The syringe for medical purposes consists of a syringe barrel (1) and at least one syringe plunger arranged so that it can slide therein, while the syringe barrel (1) is or can be provided with a cannula at one of its ends. At its other end the syringe barrel (1) has a finger rest (2) which can abut against a lip (3) of the syringe barrel (1) projecting radially outwards. The finger rest (2) takes the form of a finger plate (4) which has a sleeve-shaped extension (5) projecting into the interior of the syringe barrel (1) and also a collar (6) attached to the edge of the finger plate (4) and likewise projecting towards the end carrying the cannula. The collar (6) is cut away from the finger plate (4) on two opposite sides of the finger rest (2) forming in this way on each side a retaining clip (7), and on each retaining clip (7) a stop (8) is located, projecting radially inwards and snapping over the lip (3) of the syringe barrel (1) when the finger rest (2) is in position.
