ABSTRACT Crystals of L-phenylalanine monomethyl sulfate having low solubility compared to L-tyrosine and D- phenylalanine are obtained by subjecting a solution containing momomethyl sulfuric acid and phenylalanine to crystallization. L-phenylalanine can thus be recovered from an aqueous solution containing same by subjecting the aqueous solution to crystallization under acidic conditions to recover L-phenylalanine as L-phenylalanine monomethylsulfate.
