ABSTRACT An oligodeoxynucleotide comprising an oligonucleotide formed by linking the 5'-phosphoric acid ester of a nucleoside that comprises 2-deoxy-L-erythro-pentose and a nucleic acid base linked together in beta-configuration by the 3' ? 5' phosphodiester linkage, and an oligodeoxynucleotide comprising an oligonucleotide formed by alternately linking the 5'-phosphoric acid ester of a nucleoside that comprises 2- deoxy-D-ribose and a nucleic acid base linked together in beta- configuration with the 5'-phosphoric acid ester of a nucleoside that comprises 2-deoxy-L-erythro-pentose and a nucleic acid base linked together in beta-configuration by the 3'? 5'phosphodiester linkage are provided. These oligodeoxynucleotides specifically bind to a natural oligonucleotide having a complementary sequence and are useful as antisense DNA having depressing activity on gene expression. These oligodeoxynucleotides can efficiently be prepared by a solid phase synthesis using a phosphoramidite derivative comprising 2-deoxy-beta-L- erythro-pentofuranosyle moiety.
