There is disclosed a four-cycle engine in which a crankshaft and a cam shaft are disposed generally parallel to each other, and an intake port and an exhaust port are formed in a cylinder head. The intake port and the exhaust port are arranged in such a manner that a line passing through the centers of the intake port and the exhaust port is non-parallel to the axis of the crankshaft. With this arrangement, an intake passage and an exhaust passage can be greatly shortened, and therefore an intake efficiency as well as an exhaust efficiency can be enhanced, thereby enhancing the performance of the engine. In an air-cooled engine, the overheating of the engine is greatly restrained.

Moteur à quatre temps dans lequel un vilebrequin et un arbre à cames sont disposés de manière généralement parallèle l'un par rapport à l'autre, un orifice d'admission et un orifice d'échappement étant formés dans une culasse. L'orifice d'admission et l'orifice d'échappement sont disposés de telle manière que la ligne traversant leur centre respectif est non parallèle à l'axe du vilebrequin. Par cet arrangement, il est possible de réduire considérablement la longueur du passage d'admission et du passage d'échappement, ce qui permet non seulement d'améliorer l'efficacité de l'admission et de l'échappement, mais aussi, par voie de conséquence, celle du moteur. Dans un moteur refroidi à l'air, on limite ainsi considérablement la surchauffe du moteur.
