The invention is a miniature magnetic compass comprised of an axially polarized, barrel--shaped magnet housed within a suspended transparent binnacle. Said binnacle is comprised of a slightly concave, bottom-plate portion upon which said magnet may freely roll and rotate and a transparent dome-shaped upper portion fitted over said plate and affixed to it about its perimeter. Said transparent binnacle typically includes an eyelet, centrally formed at the top of its upper portion, thereby permitting the assembly to be suspended as an ornamental component of jewelry such as a neck pendant, a charm bracelet or earrings. To provide full orienteering compass capability, an embodiment of the miniature magnetic compass includes bearing marks around its periphery and a swiveling eyelet with integral direction pointer that indicates a desired bearing to navigate. To enhance its jewelry function, the barrel-shaped magnet may be comprised of a semi-precious stone with rod magnets axially inlaid to its core to provide north--seeking rotational force.
