Biodegradable diacrylates containing both a polymerizable double bond and a mono- or disaccharide residue are useful in the preparation of biodegradable polymers which can be used as adhesives. Methods of making the diacrylates and polymers are disclosed. The diacrylates preferably have the formulae: (H2C=C(R)-CO-X-Y-NH-CO-O)m Z (H2C=C(R)-CO-X-A-O-CO-NH-Y'-NH-CO-O)m Z.
