An improved analogue photodiode module is provided herein. This improved analogue photodiode module includes an optical fibre having an end for transmitting light beams including a plurality of amplitude-modulated signals of different frequencies. A ball lens is provided for converging the light beams which are emitted from the optical fibre at different points on a central axial line, the beams which are closer to the central axis being converged at farther points from the ball lens, and the beams which are farther from the central axis being converged at closer points to the lens. The ball lens provides a maximum sensitivity range with a definite length for the position of an end of the optical fibre. The ball lens provides an aberration which makes a peak of signal distortion at a point which is farther than a middle point (Z0) of the maximum sensitivity range from the ball lens, the end of the optical fibre being positioned at a point (Z1) which is within the maximum sensitivity range which is closer to the lens than the middle point (Z0) and giving a second order distortion IMD2 which is lower than a predetermined value. A photodiode is provided for receiving light beams which are converged by the ball lens and for converting the light beams electric signals. A package is provided for holding the photodiode, and a cap is provided for sealing the package and for supporting the ball lens. A ferrule is provided for holding an end of the optical fibre and a holder is provided for fixing the ferrule to the package. Thus in the present invention, the end of the fibre is positioned at a point which is closer to the lens than the maximum sensitivity range and gives distortion which is smaller than the predetermined value. High sensitivity and low distortion are compatible at that point.
