A method for purifying dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO), wherein the liquid DMSO with a low water content is contacted with an ion exchange resin in the form of -SO3H, and the liquid is separated from the resin. The resulting DMSO has an iron cation tracer element content of at most 1 ppb and an Na cation tracer element content of at most 2 ppb.

Ce procédé consiste à mettre en contact du DMSO liquide à faible teneur en eau, avec une résine échangeuse d'ions sous forme -SO3H, puis à séparer le liquide de la résine. Le DMSO ainsi obtenu a une teneur en éléments traceurs cation fer inférieure ou égale à 1 p.p.b. et cation Na inférieure ou égale à 2 p.p.b.
