An implantable defibrillator (1) with a hot can defibrillator electrode (10) having an ionically conductive polymeric coating (70). Polyethylene oxide containing NaCl or a similar ionic medium provides a continuous ionic network from the can to the adjacent body tissue. In certain embodiments, the electrode is chemically etched and coated with a noble metal such as platinum. In other embodiments, a noble metal or an oxide thereof (80), such as platinum black or iridium oxide, is applied to a titanium housing. The conductive polymeric coating (70) is then applied over the porous noble metal or metal oxide. A hot can defibrillator employing th e polymeric coating avoids development of high polarization at the can/tissue interface and maintains a more uniform defibrillation threshold.

L'invention concerne un défibrillateur implantable (1) pourvu d'une pointe vive d'électrode (10) de défibrillateur pourvue d'un revêtement (70) polymère ioniquement conducteur. L'oxyde de polyéthylène renfermant du NaCl ou un milieu ionique similaire constitue un réseau ionique continu de la pointe aux tissus corporels adjacents. Selon certains modes de réalisation, l'électrode est chimiquement attaquée puis revêtue d'un métal noble tel que le platine. Selon d'autres modes de réalisation, un métal noble ou un oxyde (80) de ce métal, tel que le noir de platine ou l'oxyde d'iridium, est appliqué sur un boîtier en titane. Le revêtement (70) polymère conducteur est ensuite appliqué sur le métal noble poreux ou l'oxyde de métal. Un défibrillateur à pointe vive utilisant ce revêtement polymère empêche le développement d'une polarisation élevée au niveau de l'interface pointe/tissus et permet de maintenir un seuil de défibrillation plus uniforme.
