A method for strong partitioning of multi-processor applications that maintains fault containment on the VMEbus is presented. The method implements a message passing mechanism to increase fault tolerance and localize and contain detected faults on any one card connected to a VMEbus. Software implementation supports message-based inter-module communications using the available features provided by the VME cards. A portion of each VME card's global memory is allocated upon initialization for supporting the message passing mechanism. Access to the message buffer is restricted to read-only for modules that do not own that buffer. An error detection or correction code (e.g. cyclic redundancy check) is appended to the end of a data stream message to contain faults and prevent their propagation to other VME cards.

La présente invention concerne un procédé de fort partitionnement d'applications multiprocesseurs qui permet de circonscrire les fautes sur un bus de Motorola (VME). Ledit procédé met en oeuvre un mécanisme d'envoi de message afin d'augmenter la tolérance aux fautes et de localiser et circonscrire les fautes détectées sur l'une des cartes connectées à un bus de Motorola (VME). La configuration logicielle prend en charge les communications intermodule à base de messages en utilisant les caractéristiques disponibles des cartes VME. Une partie de la mémoire globale de chaque carte VME est affectée lors du lancement à la prise en charge du mécanisme d'envoi de message. L'accès au tampon des messages est limité à la simple lecture pour les modules qui ne possèdent pas ledit tampon. Un code de détection ou de correction d'erreurs (par exemple, un contrôle de redondance cyclique) est ajouté à la fin d'un message de train de données afin de circonscrire les fautes et d'empêcher qu'elles se propagent aux autres cartes VME.
