A smoking article (10) comprises a tobacco rod (12) wrapped with a paper wrapper (14), and a patch (16) of material between the tobacco rod and the paper wrapper that extends along the tobacco rod from or near the mouth end (B) to an intermediate point along the rod. The patch has a structure such that it provides a path for smoke from tobacco upstream of the patch to the mouth end that has less resistance to smoke flow than a path through the tobacco under the patch, thus delivering smoke from the upstream part of the tobacco rod to the smoker more efficiently. The patch may also increase the static bum rate of the latter part of the smoking article.

La présente invention concerne un produit à fumer (10) comprenant un cylindre de tabac (12) enroulé dans une enveloppe en papier (14), ainsi qu'une pièce (16) de tissu disposée entre le cylindre de tabac et l'enveloppe en papier et se prolongeant le long du cylindre de tabac depuis l'extrémité (B) située du côté de la bouche du fumeur ou à proximité de celle-ci et jusqu'à un point intermédiaire situé le long du cylindre. Cette pièce possède une structure telle qu'elle assure le passage de la fumée en provenance du tabac en amont de la pièce jusqu'à l'extrémité située du côté de la bouche du fumeur, passage où la fumée rencontre moins de résistance que lorsqu'elle doit traverser le tabac sous ladite pièce, la fumée arrivant ainsi plus efficacement jusqu'au fumeur depuis la partie située en amont du cylindre de tabac. Ladite pièce peut également accélérer la vitesse de combustion statique de cette dernière partie du produit à fumer.
