New contrast agents for ultrasound imaging and methods for use of such agents for imaging of human or animal tissue are described, wherein a primary active component of such medicaments is a halogenated xanthene or halogenated xanthene derivative. Preferably, the halogenated xanthene is Rose Bengal or a functional derivative of Rose Bengal.

L'invention concerne de nouveaux agents de contraste pour imagerie par ultrasons ainsi que des méthodes d'utilisation de ces agents afin de mettre en image un tissu humain ou animal. Un composant actif primaire de ces médicaments est un xanthène halogéné ou un dérivé de xanthène halogéné. De préférence, le xanthène halogéné est du rose bengale ou un dérivé fonctionnel de rose bengale.
