CATALYTIC OXIDATION OF AMMONIA ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for decomposing ammonia recovered from coke oven gas through catalytic oxidation in the presence of oxygen gas, which comprises contacting a catalyst containing at least copper oxide or vanadium oxide in a fluidized state with the ammonia vapor. In the process of the invention, the reaction can be conducted at a low temperature of 400 to 600°C and the generation of NOX is very small in quantity.
