Various embodiments are described to address the need to lower backhaul costs for EGPRS operators while maintaining the low and constant delay characteristics they require. 20 msec TRAU frames (221-226) are still used for backhaul to maintain the low and constant delay. However, to eliminate the restriction of mapping TRAU timeslots to air timeslots (211-218) one-to-one, the TRAU slots are collectively treated as a one large 20 msec TRAU frame for a group of air timeslots. The data for the air timeslots can be packed efficiently into this giant TRAU frame, ignoring backhaul timeslot boundaries. In this way, the appropriate amount of backhaul for the carrier can be allocated and the data for the air interface timeslots more efficiently packed into the backhaul.
Dans divers modes de réalisation, l'invention permet de répondre au besoin de diminuer les coûts des liaisons terrestres pour les opérateurs EGPRS, tout en préservant les caractéristiques nécessaires de retard faible et constant. L'on utilise toujours des trames TRAU de 20 msec (221-226) pour les liaisons terrestres afin de maintenir le retard faible et constant. Cependant, afin d'éliminer la limitation posée par la mise en correspondance d'intervalles de temps TRAU avec des intervalles de temps radio (211-218) de façon individualisée, les intervalles TRAU sont traités collectivement comme une grande trame TRAU de 20 msec pour un groupe d'intervalles de temps radio. Les données pour les intervalles de temps radio peuvent être condensées efficacement dans cette trame TRAU géante, en ignorant les limites d'intervalles de temps de liaisons terrestres. Cela permet d'attribuer le nombre approprié de liaisons terrestres pour la porteuse, et de condenser plus efficacement les données pour les intervalles de temps d'interface radio dans la liaison terrestre.
