The disclosure herein describes a modular carriage shelf for use in the assembly of mobile filing and storage systems that include cabinets formed of a plurality of vertically spaced shelves. The invention pertains to the bottom shelf which is so constructed that it may be interconnected with similarly constructed bottom shelves of other filing cabinets which need to be added to the system. The carriage shelf consists of a metallic panel having a top wall and opposite side walls, the lower ends of which are inwardly bent; a support member for the roller components of the carriage is partially received at least at one opposite end of the panel. The portion of the support member extending outside the panel may be received in an open end of a similarly constructed panel disposed horizontally adjacent to the first panel.
