CA 2070728

A hydrogen-oxygen acoustic logging device for generating acoustic waves for logging a subsurface formation when arranged in a borehole through said formation. The device comprises an inflatable compartment, which contains water, electrodes and firing means, and which is electrically driven for electrolyzing water to a gaseous hydrogen-oxygen mixture thereby inflating said compartment arid for firing said gaseous mixture for generating said waves. The device comprises a housing, having an outer wall facing and closely fitting to a borehole wall portion, and being provided with a recess. Said recess contains said inflatable compartment and; when arranged in logging position against said borehole wall portion, defines a substantially closed wave generating chamber.
