The invention relates to a safety switch device for monitoring a protective cover (4) pivotable about a movement axis between an open and a closed position, with an electrical switch unit (1) which can be actuated as a result of the movement of the protective cover and which is arranged with its actuating means (5, 21) axially in alignment with the movement axis of the protective cover (4), the protective cover (4) being connected to the switch unit (1) via a connecting element (7). For simple assembly and adjustment, the connecting element (7) is designed so as to be movable in an articulated manner in at least two planes, is connected to the protective cover (4) via a fastening element (15) the switch unit (1) being stationary in a fixed manner and the fastening element (15) being fastened to the protective cover (4) essentially independently of the movement axis.
