An apparatus and method for molding balloon catheters (34) is disclosed. The balloon (34) may be molded by providing a polymeric tube (36) within a mold (24) having an interior cavity (44) in the shape of the desired balloon (34). Microwave energy, which may be generated by a gyrotron (27), may then be directed toward the mold (24), to heat the polymeric material without heating the mold (24). Once heated, pressurized fluid may be injected into the tube (36) to blow the polymeric material against the interior cavity (44) whereupon the material can cool to form the balloon (34) or can be further heatset by additional microwave energy and be cooled to form the balloon (34). In accordance with one embodiment, microwave energy can also be used without a mold to form a medical device.
L'invention concerne un appareil et un procédé de moulage de cathéters à ballonnets. Le ballonnet peut être moulé à partir d'un tube polymère dans un moule dont la cavité intérieure a la forme du ballonnet que l'on souhaite obtenir. De l'énergie micro-ondes pouvant éventuellement provenir d'un gyrotron peut être dirigée sur le moule pour chauffer le matériau polymère sans chauffer le moule. Une fois chauffé, un fluide sous pression peut être injecté dans le tube pour souffler le matériau polymère contre la cavité intérieure. Le matériau peut être laissé à refroidir pour former le ballonnet, ou thermoséché par une seconde exposition aux micro-ondes, puis refroidi pour former le ballonnet. Selon un mode de réalisation, l'énergie micro-ondes peut être utilisée sans moule pour former un dispositif médical.
