A system for controlling torque transfer in a motor vehicle includes a transfer case (20), a front inter-axle differential unit (22) and a rear inter-axle differential unit (24). The transfer case is operative for automatically transferring torque between front and rear pairs of wheels. The front inter-axle differential unit is operative for automatically transferring torque between the wheels of the front pair of wheels. The rear inter-axle differential unit is operative for automatically transferring torque between the wheels of the rear pair of wheels. Under extreme operating conditions, the system is operative for delivering substantially all torque to a single tractive wheel.

L'invention porte sur un système de commande du transfert de couple d'un véhicule à moteur, sur une boîte (20) de transfert, sur un différentiel avant (22), et sur un différentiel arrière (24). La boîte de transfert assure automatiquement le transfert de couple entre les paires de roues avant et arrière. Le différentiel avant transfert automatiquement le couple entre les roues avant, et le différentiel arrière transfert automatiquement le couple entre les roues arrière. Dans des conditions de fonctionnement extrêmes, le système permet de transférer la quasi totalité du couple à une seule roue motrice.
