Methods for the identification of inducers and inhibitors of apoptosis are described. The method exploits the finding that the exposure of cells to apoptotic stress and its concurrent shutdown of cellular protein synthesis is accompanied by phosphorylation of IF-2.alpha. and a novel protein termed p90.

L'invention concerne des procédés de criblage d'inducteurs et d'inhibiteurs de l'apoptose. Les procédés mettent à profit la découverte selon laquelle l'exposition de cellules à des agressions susceptibles d'induire l'apoptose et l'interruption concomitante de la synthèse des protéines s'accompagnent de la phosphorylation de l'IF-2.alpha. et de celle d'une nouvelle protéine dénommée p90.
