A method of determining the position of inclusions in a gemstone, comprising: (a) placing the gemstone within a material having a refractive index within 0.5, optionally 0.2 or 0.1, of that of the gemstone; (b) illuminating the gemstone and imaging the illuminated gemstone; and (c) determining the position of inclusions based on images of the inclusions in the images.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de déterminer la position d'inclusions dans une pierre précieuse, consistant : (a) à placer la pierre précieuse dans une substance possédant un indice de réfraction compris dans une marge de 0,5, éventuellement de 0,2 ou de 0,1, par rapport à l'indice de réfraction de la pierre précieuse ; (b) à éclairer la pierre précieuse et à obtenir des images de la pierre précieuse éclairée ; et (c) à déterminer la position d'inclusions sur la base d'images des inclusions dans les images.
