In a combustion chamber, which essentially comprises a first stage (1) and a second stage (2) arranged downstream in the direction of flow, the first stage (1) is equipped on the head side with at least one burner (100) for forming a hot gas (4). Vortex generators (200) are arranged on the outflow side of the burner (100), and a further fuel (9) is injected on the outflow side of the vortex generators (200) into the main flow. Furthermore, this second stage (2) has a jump (12) in cross section, in the region of which the flame front (21) forms. The burner (100) is operated only with a portion of compressor air. The other portion of compressor air is fed in before or in the region of the vortex generators (200). (Fig. 1)
