A multicarrier transceiver is provided with a sleep mode in which it idles with reduced power consumption when it is not needed to transmit or receive data. The full transmission and reception capabilities of the transceiver are quickly restored when needed, without requiring the full (and time-consuming) initialization commonly needed to restore such transceivers to operation after inactivity.

L'invention concerne un émetteur-récepteur à porteuses multiples comprenant un mode sommeil dans lequel il est en état de repos et ne consomme que peu d'énergie lorsqu'il n'est pas utilisé pour l'émission ou la réception de données. Les capacités d'émission et de réception sont rapidement restaurées en cas de besoin sans qu'il soit nécessaire de procéder à l'initialisation complète (et longue) habituellement nécessaire pour faire passer ces émetteurs-récepteurs d'un état inactif à un état opérationnel.
