The invention improves upon the MRVT (Message Transfer Part, Route Verification Test) protocol method for a signalling network of a switched network which switches through messages in digital form, standardised in Recommendations Q 751.1, Q 753 and Q754 of the ITU-T by providing a way of determining which signalling routes between the test starting point and the test destination point are actually in use.
