A glass-coated article having substantially rectangular cross-section is excited using a tickler magnetic field. Harmonics of the a.c. magnetic field that are thusly caused to emanate from said article are detected by either magnetic field sensing coils or by mixing with a propagating radio frequency field. A portal design ensures the detection of the glass-coated article having substantially rectangular cross-section, no matter its spatial orientation. Teachings of the instant invention are critical for the use of glass-coated articles having substantially rectangular cross-section in a number of applications that include but are not limited to anti-theft systems; monitoring of tamper-proof packages; tracking, tracing and identification of currency, secure documents, drivers licenses, and passports; tracking of personnel, labels and paper products, merchandising items, and composites; monitoring movement of textiles including clothing and garments and materials used to make said textiles containing the invention; authentication and brand theft protection, credit card verification and protection against fraud; biometrics and other medical applications.
L'invention concerne un article revêtu de verre présentant une section transversale sensiblement rectangulaire que l'on excite au moyen d'un champ magnétique titillateur. Les harmoniques du champ magnétique alternatif qui sont ainsi amenés à se dégager dudit article sont détectées par des bobines de détection de champ magnétique ou par mélange avec un champ radiofréquence de propagation. Une conception portail assure la détection de l'article revêtu de verre présentant une section transversale sensiblement rectangulaire, quelle que soit son orientation spatiale. L'invention concerne l'importance de l'utilisation de ces articles dans un certain nombre d'applications, notamment des systèmes antivol ; la surveillance d'emballages inviolables ; le repérage, le dépistage et l'identification de monnaies, de documents protégés, de permis de conduire, et de passeports ; le suivi du personnel, les étiquettes et les produits de papier, ainsi que les articles promotionnels, et les composites ; la surveillance du mouvement de textiles comprenant l'habillement et les vêtements ainsi que les matériaux utilisés pour fabriquer ces textiles; l'authentification et la protection contre le vol de marques, la vérification de cartes de crédit et la protection contre la fraude ; ainsi que la biométrie et d'autres applications médicales.
