This process is characterized by block, solution, emulsion or suspension polymerization or copolymerization, at a temperature as low as 0 degrees C, of at least one of the said monomers in the presence of an initiating system consisting of at least one non-peroxy radical-generating compound and at least one catalyst made up of a metal complex, represented bY the formula MAa(L)n in which M represents Rh, Co or Ir; A represents a halogen or a pseudohalogen; the Ls, identical or different, each represent a ligand, which can be a chiral ligand, and is chosen among cyclooctadiene, PRR'R", P(OR)(OR')(OR"), NRR'R", ORR', SRR', SeRR', AsRR'R", SbRR'R", each R, R', R" independently representing a C1-C14 alkyl group, eventually substituted, or an eventually substituted aromatic group, at least two of these ligands able to be linked together by one or several bivalent radicals; a is an integer such as that 1 ~ a ~ 3; n is an integer such that 1 ~ n ~ 5, and in the absence of activator.

Ce procédé est caractérisé par le fait que l'on polymérise ou copolymérise en masse, solution, émulsion ou suspension, à une température pouvant descendre jusqu'à 0°C, au moins un desdits monomères en présence d'un système d'amorçage comprenant au moins un composé générateur de radicaux non peroxydique et au moins un catalyseur constitué par un complexe de métal, représenté par la formule MAa(L)n dans laquelle M représente Rh, Co, ou Ir; A représente un halogène ou un pseudo-halogène; les L, identiques ou différents, représentent chacun un ligand, pouvant être un ligand chiral, qui est choisi parmi le cyclooctadiène, PRR'R", P(OR)(OR')(OR"), NRR'R", ORR', SRR', SeRR', AsRR'R", SbRR'R", chaque R, R', R" représentant indépendamment un groupe alkyle en Cl-C14, éventuellement substitué, ou un groupe aromatique éventuellement substitué, au moins deux de ces ligands pouvant être reliés entre eux par un ou plusieurs radicaux bivalents ; a est un entier tel que 1 ~ a ~ 3 ; n est un entier tel que 1 ~ n ~ 5, et en l'absence d'activateur.
