According to the present invention, a flexible, fibrous hernia mesh is provided, which is intended to be implanted to close hernia defects. The mesh has at least two functional components or layers: (1) a rapidly degradable first layer and (2) a more slowly degradable (with respect to the first layer) second layer. Using the fibrous mesh of this invention, the hernia defect can be closed so that a) the second layer supports the area until the scar tissue is strong enough (around 6 months), to prevent recurrent hernia formation, b) while the more rapid degradation of the first layer induces scar tissue formation due to inflammatory reaction, and c) the second layer isolates the first layer from the abdominal cavity, preventing tissue to tissue adhesion onto the intestines. The mesh is placed on the uncovered fascia area with its more rapidly absorbable side (the first layer) towards the facia.

L'invention concerne un tricot à mailles fibreux et souple, destiné à être implanté en vue de la fermeture de défauts herniaires. Ledit tricot est constitué d'au moins deux couches ou composants fonctionnels : (1) une première couche rapidement dégradable et (2) une seconde couche à dégradation plus lente (que la première). Grâce au tricot à mailles de la présente invention, il est possible de fermer le défaut herniaire de manière que a) la deuxième couche consolide la zone jusqu'à ce que les tissus cicatriciels soient suffisamment résistants (6 mois environ) pour éviter la formation d'une hernie récidivante, que b) la première couche à dégradation plus rapide provoque la formation de tissus cicatriciels suite à une réaction inflammatoire, et que c) la deuxième couche isole la première couche de la cavité abdominale, empêchant l'adhésion inter-tissulaire avec les intestins. Le tricot à mailles est disposé sur la surface non protégée du fascia, le côté le plus rapidement résorbable (la première couche) étant tourné vers le fascia.
