The invention discloses a self-priming rapid curing chromate free corrosion resistant coating composition based on a random polyvinvl terpolymer and an alkyd resin with hydroxyl number ranging between 80-200 in association with a mineral acid catalyst, one or more organic solvents and a drying agent wherein the said vinyl terpolymer is predominantly a polyvinyl formal with polyvinyl alcohol and polyvinyl acetate as the other two co-polymers, the said terpolymer cross linking through its hydroxyl groups with the alkyd resin in the composition during curing. The composition can be applied as a clear coat or as a pigmented composition with addition of pigments on ferrous and non- ferrous metallic substrate and is particularly suitable for continuous coil coating lines. The invention also concerns a method of coating a ferrous and non-ferrous metallic substrate by applying the said coating composition on its surface and coated articles so produced.

La présente invention concerne une composition de revêtement d'apprêt résistant à la corrosion, sans chromate et à séchage rapide, à base de copolymère triple polyvinylique aléatoire et d'une résine alkyde avec un nombre d'hydroxyles compris entre 80 et 200 en association avec un catalyseur d'acide minéral, d'un ou de plusieurs solvants organiques et d'un agent de séchage, ce copolymère triple vinylique étant de façon prédominante un formol polyvinylique avec un alcool polyvinylique et un acétate polyvinylique comme autres copolymères, ce copolymère triple effectuant une réticulation via ses groupes hydroxyle avec la résine alkyde présente dans cette composition pendant le séchage. On peut appliquer cette composition sous forme de couche transparente ou de composition pigmentée avec une addition de pigments sur un substrat métallique ferreux ou non ferreux et, cette composition convient particulièrement pour des lignes de couchage sur bande continues. Cette invention concerne aussi un procédé de revêtement d'un substrat métallique ferreux et non ferreux par application de cette composition de revêtement sur sa surface et des articles revêtus ainsi produits.
