A steel body bit nozzle assembly (30) comprising a bit body (14) having a port (28) therein with a sleeve (32) disposed adjacent a nozzle in the port and an annular seal (38) disposed between an outer wall each of the sleeve and the nozzle (34) and a wall of the port, each seal (36) (38) being received and compressed in an annular seal groove (40, 42) located between its respective component and the bit body. A nozzle pocket insert assembly and a method of manufacturing or retrofitting a steel body bit for use of the nozzle pocket insert assembly are also disclosed.
