In the data memory or in a separate, integrated text memory (3), a memory-card-specific vocabulary is stored in the form of a program (software). The speech gene- rator (2) is controlled in accordance with the software via an external control unit associated with an input device for the memory card (1). At an output line (9), corresponding analog speech signals are then available in the form of user information, particularly an input acknowledgement or user guidance. If the memory card is used in a programmable switching system, service-feature-specific user information can be outputted in the language of the user. The conven- tional central text storage is no longer necessary.
